Rosemary Oil
Rosemary essential oil is steam distilled from Rosmarinus Officinalis, sweet, fragrant and medicinal herb from the mint family. The name was derived from the Latin word “Rosemarinus” meaning “Sea Dew” as it has beautiful light blue colored flowers. Rosemary is also known as a “brain herb” since it is an effective stimulant for mental activity. It originates from Spain and is cultivated in Yugoslavia, France, Tunisia, Portugal, Mediterranean areas, Morocco and Spain. A Spanish folk saying is that “where rosemary thrives the mistress is master.”
Pure rosemary essential oil is a fresh, thin, clear pale yellow liquid composed of Alpha-Terpineol, Beta-Caryophyllene, Borneol, camphene, Bornyl Acetate, Camphor, Cineole, Limonene, and Pinene. The therapeutic properties of rosemary oil are analgesic, antiseptic, antimicrobial, antidiarrhoeal, antioxidant, antispasmodic, astringent, antirheumatic, antineuralic, bechic, cardiotonic, carminative, cephalic, cholagogue, cicatrisant, cytophylactic, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogic, fungicidal, hypertensive, parasiticidal, rubefacient, stimulant of the adrenal cortex, sudorific, vulnerary and tonic.
This natural rosemary oil can be used to effectively treat arteriosclerosis, palpitations, varicose veins, nervous breakdown, depression, memory loss, mental fatigue, migraines, neuralgia, arthritis, gout, rheumatism, headaches, muscle pains, hair re-growth, dandruff problems, eczema, acne, dermatitis, small cuts and mouth care. This medicinal oil is useful to treat such problems as asthma, bronchitis, whopping cough, intestinal infections, dyspepsia, colitis, stomach cramps, flatulence, hepatic disorders and jaundice. Rosemary products can even help to lower menstruation pains, improve blood circulation, strengthen vessels and stimulate weight loss. 100% pure rosemary oil has excellent brain stimulant properties and is a wonderful remedy the central nervous system as it improves mental awareness and memory.
Although rosemary oil has many benefiting qualities, high doses taken orally are neurotoxic. Pregnant women, high blood pressure and epileptic patients should not use rosemary essential oil. It has been reported to be non-toxic, non-irritant (in dilution only), non-phototoxic and non-sensitizing.
Rosemary essential oil can be blended with other essential oils like frankincense, lavender, clary sage, cedarwood oil, basil, thyme, citronella, lemongrass, elemi, geranium, chamomile oil, peppermint, cardamom, bergamot and eucalyptus.
Rosemary was extensively used in ancient times during religious and wedding ceremonies. Even a great deal of modern medicines, medicinal preparations, room fresheners, hair care, skin care and beauty products contains rosemary essential oil. It is also one of the main ingredients of Eau-de-Cologne. Rosemary has been used for centuries as a flavor enhancer in the kitchen. Dry and fresh leaves of Rosemary are used as a culinary spice in the Mediterranean cuisines, to perfectly complement a great variety of foods. A cup of fresh brewed pure rosemary tea will give you an instant burst of energy.
